Kestrel is one of the world’s largest producing underground coking, or metallurgical coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually. Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process. The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD. Our team’s capability covers the entire mining process, from development to extraction and processing, environmental management and sustainable rehabilitation. We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further.

About the role:
We’re seeking a skilled and motivated Mine Surveyor to join our site-based team at Kestrel Mine, working a lifestyle-friendly 7/7 rotating day shift roster. Reporting to the Senior Surveyor, you’ll be responsible for delivering best-practice survey services across the operation while ensuring compliance with all statutory and operational requirements.
In this role, you will produce accurate and timely weekly survey plans and reports, support underground mining teams with precise data, and contribute to the continuous improvement of surveying practices across site.

In this role, you will support Kestrel by:
- Produce survey plans and meet operational surveying requirements.
- Assist the Senior Surveyor in delivering high-quality, timely survey services.
- Collect, interpret and report accurate survey data using best-practice techniques and equipment.
- Provide survey support to the underground mining teams to ensure operational efficiency.
- Maintain and draft mine plans required for statutory reporting and compliance.
- Ensure survey equipment is calibrated, tested and maintained appropriately.
About you:
- Tertiary qualification in Surveying or related field.
- Experience working as a Mine Surveyor in an underground coal mining environment.
- Proficient with Leica or Trimble total stations, Trimble GNSS, AutoCAD, and Deswik (or similar software).
- Strong attention to detail, with excellent numeracy and communication skills.
- Manual driver’s licence.
