Kestrel is one of the world’s largest producing underground coking, or metallurgical coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually. Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process. The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD. Our team’s capability covers the entire mining process, from development to extraction and processing, environmental management and sustainable rehabilitation. We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further.

About the role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Reliability Engineer to join our Engineering Team. In this role you will report to the Engineering Superintendent and will be based on site at Kestrel mine working a Monday to Friday or 9-day fortnight. This opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who values safety and excels in fostering clear communication and collaboration.

In this role you will work a 9-day fortnight and be based at Kestrel Mine located outside of Emerald. As an integral part of our operation, you will play a critical role in driving the continuous improvement process which to support the company achieving its production and financial objectives.

In this role, you will support Kestrel by:
- Leading reliability improvement within the engineering and operational team’s.
- Improving asset operation time through Asset Management, Condition Monitoring, Defect Elimination, Root Cause Analysis and Managing Machine Health Programs
- Coordinate, review and implement reliability strategies and programmes to support equipment asset strategies.
- Review industry and technological advancements lessons learnt to lead reliability engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the team in the development, maintenance and governance of equipment asset management strategies and plans to optimize the lifecycle of mobile mining equipment
- Develop and maintain relationships with site maintenance and engineering teams to improve asset performance and support site improvement initiatives.
- Analyse life of equipment to determine equipment capability and optimisation of maintenance activities.
- Closely monitor equipment performance in relation to cost, performance and reliability and complete targeted root cause analysis (RCA). Develop and implement subsequent improvement actions and monitor their effectiveness.
- Provide coaching to the maintenance execution team in regard to defect elimination and root cause analysis.
- Deliver root cause analysis and "failure type" reviews.
About you:
- Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within a mining or heavy industry setting.
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with FMECA, Asset Criticality, Spares Analysis, Maintenance Strategy and Work Instruction development.
- CMMS experience (SAP Work Management experience desirable)
- Extensive experience in asset management, including data analysis, trend identification, and the implementation of solutions and controls to drive continuous improvement.
- Experience with Coal Mining Legislation and Recognised standards
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels including internal and external stakeholders
- Hands-on operational knowledge of mining equipment and its applications.
- A strong commitment to safety, with a keen eye for detail to ensure compliance and best practices.
- S1,2,3 - G2 Competencies
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges effectively.
- Interest in completing Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Currently holds or has an interest in achieving RPEQ status.
- A demonstrated ability to align with and achieve business objectives.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the capability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.
