About the company:

Kestrel is one of the world’s largest producing underground coking, or metallurgical coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually.  Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process.  The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD.  Our team’s capability covers the entire mining process, from development to extraction and processing, environmental management and sustainable rehabilitation.  We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further.

About the role: 

Reporting to the Strategic Sourcing Manager, we are seeking an experienced contracts professional to manage, the site-based contracts team at Kestrel. This site-based role is integral to ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and compliant procurement activities that supports the mine’s long-term sustainability and success.

In this role, you will support Kestrel by: 

  • Managing the end-to-end procurement lifecycle for major contracts, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Developing and implementing sourcing strategies and contract management plans to support operational and capital projects.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • Monitoring and managing vendor onboarding and compliance, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory procurement requirements, including safety and environmental standards.
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives in procurement and contract management.
  • Providing leadership and mentorship to the contracts team, fostering professional development.
  • Responsible for overseeing camp bookings and travel for site-based personnel.

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in either Business, Commerce, Law, or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in sourcing and end to end contract management.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, manage, and optimise contracts for operational and capital projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities and manage risk.
  • High level of attention to details and strong communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
