About our company: 

Kestrel is one of the world’s largest producing underground coking, or metallurgical coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually.  Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process.  The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD.  Our team’s capability covers the entire mining process, from development to extraction and processing, environmental management and sustainable rehabilitation.  We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further.

About the role: 

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM) to join our site-based team.  This role carries statutory responsibilities, ensuring the development, supervision, monitoring, and continuous improvement of mechanical engineering standards and procedures while maintaining full compliance with relevant regulations.

In this role, you will support Kestrel by: 

  • Developing, reviewing and approving various schedules, project plans and budgets.
  • Leading risk assessments and hazard management activities.
  • Driving operational improvement through analysis of plant performance and subsequent maintenance and equipment reliability activities.
  • Formulating and implementing site mechanical engineering standards, systems and procedures to achieve company objectives.
  • Providing technical engineering support, advise and coordination across the organisation.
  • Ensure equipment, engineering standards and technical solutions add value to the business and meet relevant statutory or regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring adequate contingency planning is available to maintain long term business continuity.
  • Leading the development of site’s long-term maintenance strategy.
  • Coordination of mechanical contracts and contractors and project management.

About you:

  • Minimum of 5 years mechanical engineering experience in the mining or resources industry, with proven leadership responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical) or a relevant mechanical trade/technical discipline.
  • S1, S2, S3 and G2 competencies (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong skills in desktop applications including MS Office suite.
  • The ability to communicate with influence across a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • An analytical and strategic approach to tasks and problem solving.
