About our company: 

Kestrel is one of the world’s largest producing underground coking, or metallurgical coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually.  Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process.  The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD.  Our team’s capability covers the entire mining process, from development to extraction and processing, environmental management and sustainable rehabilitation.  We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further.

About the role: 

We are currently seeking a proactive and experienced Coordinator Maintenance to join our Surface Services team at Kestrel. This role is pivotal in coordinating and leading daily maintenance operations across site infrastructure and services, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and safety while driving operational excellence.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Superintendent, Supervisors, and wider departmental teams to deliver planned maintenance outcomes, support continuous improvement initiatives, and lead a capable team in achieving business objectives.

In this role, you will support Kestrel by: 

  • Leading day-to-day operations of surface maintenance activities, including water/sewerage systems, mechanical infrastructure, pipelines, and fire systems.

  • Implementing and monitoring the maintenance schedule, assist in breakdown response, and carry out regular work area inspections.

  • Ensuring all activities are performed in line with safety regulations, company policies, and statutory compliance (Coal Mining Safety and Health legislation).

  • Coaching and developing team members, leading pre-start meetings, and maintaining clear communication across shifts.

  • Collaborating with other departments to align maintenance outcomes with overall business targets.

  • Managing external contractors working within the Surface Services scope and ensure adherence to maintenance plans.

About you:

  • Proven experience in a surface maintenance or similar operational coordination role, ideally within the mining or heavy industry sector.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members.

  • High level of safety awareness and understanding of applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation.

  • Ability to manage priorities in a dynamic environment and support effective breakdown response.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster productive working relationships.

  • Sound understanding of maintenance planning, scheduling, and contractor management.
