About our company
Kestrel is one of the world’s largest producing underground coking coal mines and produces around 7 million tonnes of metallurgical coal annually. Our coal is shipped to key markets in Asia and Europe to be used in the steel making process. The mine is located in the Bowen Basin, approximately 40km Northeast of Emerald in Central QLD. We have an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2048 with the potential to increase further.

About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager Sustainability to join our Brisbane Office team. The role will lead our ESG journey building on the significant positive outcomes delivered to date. If you are keen to make a difference and have a passion for identifying opportunities and working with others to see them successfully implemented, then this role is for you.
Your key responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Leading cultural heritage activities including Traditional Owner liaison and embedding cultural heritage appreciation, understanding and effective management systems.
- Providing technical guidance and oversight of all activities required to manage priority environmental approvals, including the timely and effective conversion of MDL182 to a ML following EIS submission in early 2025.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions and environmental organisations to stay updated on evolving environmental regulations and provide timely internal communications.
- Developing strong connections with regulatory and departmental authorities around licensing, permits, leasing, EA amendments and approvals as required.
- Continuing the evolution and implementation of Kestrel’s ESG Strategy.
- Developing and implementing internal and external ESG reporting standards and associated documents.
- Working closely with the Principal Carbon Transition on the development and implementation of our carbon reduction initiatives.
Our ideal candidate will possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
- Familiarity with relevant environmental regulations, government agencies and industry bodies related to ESG matters.
- Experience in developing and negotiating project approvals agreements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify opportunities for ESG performance improvements.
- Effective communication skills for engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
While the role is Brisbane based there will the requirement for travel to site as required.
