Are you passionate about building a career in the mining industry and ready to take the next step in your studies?

The NEXTGEN Scholarship Program supports motivated students pursuing a mining-related qualification who want to gain valuable industry experience alongside their studies.

Through financial assistance, paid vacation work and industry mentoring, the program helps students build practical experience and a strong foundation for a future career in mining.

What does the scholarship offer?

Successful applicants will receive:

  • $10,000 per year in financial support, paid in two instalments each year, commencing in 2027
  • Paid vacation work during university breaks
  • Mentoring and guidance from experienced industry professionals
  • Practical, hands-on experience within a working mining environment

Who can apply?

We encourage applications from students who:

  • Reside in Queensland
  • Australian Citizen or Australian Resident
  • Are currently studying - or intend to commence full-time study - in a mining-related tertiary qualification in 2027
  • May study at a tertiary institution located anywhere in Australia
  • Have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the mining industry
  • Demonstrate motivation, a commitment to learning and a strong work ethic
  • Align with Kestrel’s values of One, Agile, Committed and Respectful

Relevant fields of study

Relevant qualifications may include, but are not limited to:

  • Mining, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical/Process or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Geology
  • Environmental Science
  • Surveying
  • Automation and Technology
  • Other disciplines supporting mining operations
